The Final Word August, 2005

John H. Giesler

This issue begins a new collaboration with the Board of World Mission. Br. Sam Gray, who is Director of Intercultural Ministries and Communication and maintains his office in Winston-Salem, is beginning to supply the news items on the first three pages. I will continue as editor, and supply the last three pages, including interim editor for Pray Every Day. You will note the small changes in this issue. The Chiddie crew will continue to function as the Holy Folders of Ardmore, who prepare 1400 copies for mailing around the world. Shiela will continue to receive payments and maintain the mailing lists.

We are grateful to Br. Sam Gray for the cover article about the Summit. The Friends of the Manor Haus has gained owership of Zinzendorf’s estate in Berthelsdorf. Br. Peter Vogt, a Moravian minister/scholar from Germany, heads it. Hitler took it away from the Church in 1935, and we lost control and everyone sadly watched it deteriorate. With the reunification of Germany in 1990 it became possible to buy it back. Justin Blake is the fellow from the UK who discovered Zinzendorf five years ago and was intrigued by the Hourly Intersession, and tried it with his youth group for a month. They were so enthusiastic they are still going and started the 24/7Prayer movement. There are many groups in the UK and as he tells us there are now cells in 58 countries around the world. Wow! He wrote to Peter about his trip. Br. Sam tells about the powerful movement at Convo, the RVC Retreat and the growth of the Regional Volunteer Coordinators. His Prayer Focus talks about four exciting new developments around the world. We miss Br. Iobst’s PED but he is very enthusiastic about this month’s edition. Br. Jack Geis has a thrilling report of many new things with the Society work. The report off the Internet about a new friend of the Bluefields Colegio is very interesting. Basketball is a great activity. About 40 years ago I went with the Colegio Moravo basketball team that won the Nicaragua High School title, on a tour of Costa Rica where they played some of the best teams there. They were very good then. But it is great to see others take an interest too. We hope you like the new direction of ONWARD. We will be letting you know about future plans. Barbara and I are going to visit Labrador for the first time in August. We were hoping to visit the Propsoms, but they are already gone. We hope to visit every station. Pray for good weather. We will take pictures. ‘Til then, God bless!
