A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT What should the Christian response be to the recent tsunami in Southeast Asia? In my opinion, the first priority should be for prayer; for the survivors and the families and friends of the victims, and for those who are trying to minister to their needs in this terrible tragedy. Becoming a participant in the relief effort closely follows. The Board of World Mission is encouraging us to contact Church World Service, the humanitarian arm of The National Council of Churches, USA. Their address is P.O. Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515: phone number: 800-297-1516 ext. 222. Whether you contribute through the church or a secular humanitarian organization such as The Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders, you are being obedient to Jesus’ command as expressed in Matt. 25:35-46. On a brighter note, the BWM has agreed to facilitate a worldwide gathering of Moravian Mission Societies to exchange information on what each of us is hoping to accomplish and to prayerfully develop a strategy for working together to spread the Gospel. I’m exited about the potential this offers. Although it is tentatively scheduled for Fall, 2005 the place and agenda has not been worked out. Br. Sam Gray ad I will begin the initial planning process this month. We covet your prayers. In a final update, the offering from the Mission Lovefeast held in November 2004 has reached a year end total of $12,813. This will be distributed to the causes previously announced: Michael Tesh Orphanage Project in Kenya, BWM HIV/AIDS Orphanage Project in Tanzania, Worldwide Evangelism for Christ (our speaker for the lovefeast was Dr. Louis Sutton who heads up this organization in the US), Charity Johnson, a New Philadelphia Moravian working as a missionary in Asia, and Hurricane Relief for the Caribbean through the BWM. Lastly, I’m delighted to report that the downstairs floors in the Mission Residence have been sanded and refinished and they are beautiful. We have received gifts from Salem Congregation ($2500), New Philadelphia Moravian ($500), and individual ($250) and other items such as rugs, several pieces of furniture and other smaller items. Our yard sale produced over $500. We are truly grateful for all the help we have received and plan to complete the painting and refitting by the end of February. If you would like to help, please contact Sheila Beaman at the Mission office, 336-773-1732. I pray the Lord will richly bless you all in 2005. Jack Geis
