PRAY Every Day July, 2003

Bishop Robert Iobst

1, Michael and Caroline Woo and infant son leave for Thailand for 3 weeks of training with Overseas Missionary Fellowship and then begin their 4 year term of service in East Asia.  Pray God will give them wisdom and joy and many new friends.

2. The Moravian Young Adult (ages 18-25) Conference begins in Miami. Pray the Holy Spirit will move in their minds and in their leaders: Br. Sam Gray, Br. Brad Bennett and Sr. Tina Giesler.

3. Lord, teach us how to pray aright with reverence and with fear; though dust and ashes in Thy sight we may, we must draw near. No Moravian Ministerial meeting this month.

4. July the Fourth.  Let’s pray for President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Home Security Secretary Tom Ridge, U.S. Supreme Court Judges and your state and local officials.

5. Pray for pastors and Sunday school teachers by name as they make final preparations to preach and teach tomorrow.

6. The Lord’s DayJohn Hus was born July 6, 1369 and killed at age 46 on July 6, 1415. Pray God to give us the kind of reverence for Scripture God gave to Hus.  Also use some of the words of Psalms 31 and 51 in your prayers today.

7. Our Father, Who art in Heaven, let Thy will be done everywhere on earth (mention places) as it is in heaven.  Do you know some hymns by heart you could sing to God now in your devotions?

8. When you hear of wars . . . be not troubled . . . the Gospel must first be published among all nations. Mark 13:7, 10. Talk to God about this today.

9. Dr. Norvelle Goff Rudy to return to Honduras today.  Let’s pray God to give joy to her and husband Gerard in their medical work and their witnessing for Jesus in Moravian Hospital in Awas.

10. Charity Johnson, member at New Philadelphia, to depart for East Asia to serve with Campus Crusade for Christ.  Pray for her often.

11. Pray for persons studying in Lay Seminary at Laurel Ridge this weekend.  Pray also for northern and southern provincial elders meeting in Pennsylvania today.

12. Pray today for Sunnyside staff and volunteers serving poor people of Winston-Salem.  Money needed.

13. OUR DAY OF WORSHIP - God’s words to Isaiah (56:7), Lord, Thy body (the church) ne’er forsake, ne’er Thy congregation leave. I will give them joy in My house of prayer.

14. In addition to petitions, let’s give God lots of praise. Praise God for Christian churches in Mongolia (north of China) – They are growing so much these days. Batsukh Beasley (a Mongolian lady married to a Rural Hall, N.C. man). Deserves our prayer,

15. Pray for Senior Highs at Laurel Ridge this week.  Pray God’s Spirit will move wonderfully among campers and leaders.  Southern Mission Society Directors meet today. Pray God to guide their meeting.

16. Michael and Brenda Brent (Friedland Moravians) with Campus Crusade for Christ are helping students in Split, Croatia to come to faith in Christ Jesus.  They ask for our prayers.

17. Birthday of Crooked Oak Moravian Church (1927) in Cana,, Virginia. Let’s pray for them.  Clayton Hall, their leader for 31 years, died April 22. Pray for present leader, Gary Easter. New Philadelphia short- term mission volunteers go to Jamaica today.

18. Pray for Interprovincial Moravian Mission Board meeting at Christ Church.

19. The Brents also ask us to pray for persons in their discussion groups in Croatia: Igor, Dusko, Oliver, Marko, Stip, Darko, Ana, Denis, Marin, Vjenci, Lidija and Kristina.

20. OUR DAY OF JOY, GLADNESS AND WORSHIP. As angels honor Thee in heaven, may every tongue on earth confess Thy Name. Make my mind and body Thy holy temple.

21. O Christ, Thou eternal King of glory, unto Whom is given all power in heaven and on earth, lead Thy church out of conflict unto victory. Glorify Thyself among us. 

22. In our weakness when we know not how to pray as we ought, make intercession for us. Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I wait before Thee.  Read or sing some hymns to Him now.  Mention names of many persons in your family to Him.

23. About 22 million persons from other countries visit the USA each year (including about 1/2 million university students).  Most never get invited into an American home; many are never invited to church.  Talk to God about this today.

24. Daily Text suggests that on Thursdays we pray for rulers and citizens of our nation and all nations.  God, give them a passion for righteousness and personal purity and godly wisdom.

25. Today pray God will use the Trans World Radio Christian broadcast to win people to Christ.  So many people have never heard the Gospel.  Often people in crisis will respond to the Gospel.

26. Birthday of New Philadelphia Moravian Church - 1846. Let’s pray for staff members and the many volunteer workers, (Sunday school teachers, etc.)

27. THE LORD’S DAY - Let us with a gladsome mind praise the Lord, for He is Kind.

28. Pray for Anne Bagge and Susan Teague (Friedland Moravians) attending Youth Camp in Manchester, England this week.  Bless the campers.

29. Pray for the work campers (based this week at Laurel Ridge) working among poor and needy people in mountain communities near Laurel Ridge Camp this week.

30. Pray for members of new Moravian churches: Holly Springs (Harold Atkins, pastor), and New Beginnings (Chris Thore, pastor).  About 100 attending each church each Sunday.

31.Moravians in Suriname have about 70 schools.  Government helps pay their salaries.  What a privilege it is to teach! What a responsibility!

Something to pray about.:

Dr. Roland Werner in World Pulse Magazine: About 100,000 to 200,000 Germans are leaving established churches every year. Some new congregations are being planted.

Other formerly strong Christian countries need to be won back to Christ. Evangelism is needed.
