(Continued from P. 1) was returning from the funeral with his wife and two daughters.  His little daughters (three and seven) don’t want to visit their father in prison because they are afraid to go through the checkpoints again.

In this bad situation, full of difficulties, the Center achieved many things in addition to our regular work. We held an integrated summer camp with an average of 120 children per day, 30 of them being disabled. The camp offers a safe place for the children to practice their dreams and non-curricular activities.  The Center also offers psychological support to overcome the negative effects of the occupation and the negative behavior of the soldiers. We have worked extensively with other organizations engaged in rehabilitation.

The main problem is sustaining rehabilitation after the age of fourteen, especially girls. Star Mountain established a vocational rehabilitation unit in order to train thirteen girls about self care and participation in the family’s daily life and to offer them training in handicrafts, sewing, gardening, agriculture and so on which helps them to have independence in their daily life.

Our thanks go to all of you who sent us a sign of solidarity. Our thanks go to all of you who engage yourselves politically and try to contribute to the solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in their own countries. Our thanks go to all of you who are with us in thoughts and prayers and support our center financially.            Rawda Marouf Khouriya

EASTER GREETING FROM SOUTH AFRICA

Dear Friends:

We have been blessed to celebrate the week of Lent with the Christian Church worldwide and we therefore know that you are part of it. The same story of the suffering of Jesus will be told in different languages around the world and all will understand it. We will all be renewed by this wonderful story and have the opportunity to share it with others around us. May you have the same experience as many of us will have around the world. May you feel that unity as we share in the same story and drink from the Cup.

In Genadendal we had the opportunity to baptize six adults and confirm 37 members of the Congregation on Palm Sunday. We were blessed by a wonderful service and trust the Lord that He will guide them This week will be filled with many happenings while at the same time preparing for our Church Bazaar which will take place on Easter Monday. God bless you all.

UPDATE ON THE KIT MINISTRY

Betty and I left Oak Ridge on Thursday, March 27th in our truck, pulling the Friedland Moravian trailer full of Health Kits. We had a delightful evening and overnight at the Holy Cross Abbey near Berryville, VA. The means of support of the Monks who abide there is baking and selling two pound fruitcakes. We bought four for gifts.

Friday we unloaded 1,127 Health Kits at Church World Services in New Windsor, MD. This brings our total to 17,000 since we began the KIT program in 1998.

Friday afternoon we motored on to Lancaster, PA and were met by Lea and Bill Mitchell, who took us on a tour of the area. We were very excited to see the renovations at the Lititz Moravian Church. I had not been to this church since 1958 when I sang there with the Moravian College Choir. We then had a delightful dinner meal with the Mitchells.

Saturday morning we presented a brief program on the KIT ministry and Moravian Disaster Relief Efforts to the Penn-Mar Mission Society of the Lancaster Moravian Church. We are hoping that some of the churches in the Northern Province will get as excited about the KIT program as the Southern Province churches have been.

Our next trip with KITS will be mid-summer so please keep the KITS on your agenda. If you cannot prepare KITS, please consider a financial contribution.  With your money we buy materials and ask youth groups to assemble them. You may make your check payable to Moravian Mission Fund and send to me.

Also we now ask that you pack 15-20 KITS into small boxes (with tops) instead of trash bags. Banana boxes are ideal.

We also wish to thank those who until recently served on the Staff of the Board of World Missions for their publicity and support.

 Bill Campbell
