PRAYER FOCUS MARCH, 2003

2002 World Mission Shop Annual Report

Shop manager Jo Anne Todd reported that sales through the month of November kept pace with the previous year and spirits were very positive.  “But,” she added, “December sales hit a down turn.” As a result the Board of Directors has had to reduce the dollar amount given to each mission cause but has not dropped any cause that depended on our annual support.

The Board is grateful to Jo Anne, to the staff and to the volunteers, (gave over 400 hours service).

Many church groups and organizations became involved in 2002.  The broader participation helped artisans and crafts become known to a larger customer area. Twenty-one such exhibits were manned for schools, church circles and educational meetings.

Special shopping days benefited Sunnyside Ministry, King Outreach Ministry and Samaritan Ministry. A contribution was given for Nicaraguan pastors.

We rejoice that Irvin Leinbach was able to be present for the January meeting.  Our sympathy is extended to Bishop Robert Iobst’s family upon the passing of Sr. Helen Iobst who was a volunteer at the shop for several years.

Thanks to each person who has had a part in this very important aspect of mission work.

There were sales at 21 off sites this year, including Southern Province Synod, Bethabara Anniversary and Old Salem Heritage Day.  Union Cross Moravian Church again sponsored a seasonal store. This is their tenth year and all the money earned in commission each year goes toward mission projects. We supported the school kits drive from MCC again this year and we were able to ship 402 school kits which will be sent to needy school children.  A web site for the shop is in operation and we are looking at ways to use it in the future.

.(This is one of the most dynamic mission efforts of our church. It has been replicated in the Northern Province in Bethlehem and Lititz. Continue to support this by volunteering and prayer).JHG
