PRAY Every Day MAY, 2003

Bishop Robert Iobst

1.Today is the birthday of the Moravian Church begun in 1457. Pray for the families of the 7 astronauts of the space craft that blew up on Feb.2. Let’s continue to pray about this tragedy on each day of this month.

2. SUNDAY. Unity offering will  go to Southern Moravian Province in Tanzania for the first Archives Building. It will be built in Rungwe, the oldest Moravian station in the country.

3. See page 56 in Moravian Daily Text Book and pray for each person on the Interprovincial World Mission Board – for God to bless them and guide them.

4. Today see page 51 in Text Book and pray God to guide each person named there serving on the Southern Mission Society. Almighty God, give us all a passion to talk to people about Jesus and about His words.

5. ASH WEDNESDAY. Pray God to give people a sense of His presence in church today and strengthen also our assurance of salvation.

6. Often pray for Steve and Ann Marx serving Jesus with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Ecuador. Their son Brian is studying to be a missionary pilot.   Pray God to move people to help with financial support.

7. Pray for people in authority – reveal Christ Jesus to them – give them wisdom to govern people – protect them from evil – move people to prayer.

8. Heavenly Father, I wish Your kingdom would come and your will really be done on earth – that in each nation people would know You and obey You.

9. SUNDAY.Patrick Johnstone wrote that we should become prayer warriors with a world vision  “praying Satan-defeating, kingdom-taking, people-reaching, captive-releasing, revival-giving, Christ-glorifying prayers.”

10. Prayer not only changes people and situations and even the course if history but also the people who pray.  Change me, Saviour, in any way You wish.  Holy Spirit, fill me and use me.

11. Today let’s pray God again to put into the hearts and minds of more persons to become pastors.  Mention names to Him.

12. Today let’s pray for the Moravians in the 16 congregations and 20 mission places in the Czech Republic and to bless their outreach to the often-despised Gypsy people. Br. Jaroslav Pleva is their leader.

13.Pray for thousands of Surinamese in Holland. Many are Moravians who now don’t go to church. Father, give them evangelists to bring them back.

14. First missionaries arrived in Bluefields, Nicaragua (1849). God’s guidance for Br. Allan Budier, now head of the Colegio Moravo in Bluefields.  Father, inspire Moravians to reach out to Spanish-speaking people who may need Jesus.

15. Confess sin daily to God.  ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved. Think of the tremendous cost to God to forgive our sin.  Thank you, Jesus.  How should I tell others about You?

16. SUNDAY. O day of rest and gladness! O day of joy and light! Ask God to pour the Holy Spirit upon Br. David Marcus being made a presbyter today in New Philadelphia Church, NC.

17. St. Patrick’s Day. Safeguard at least 15 minutes each day this week to enjoy God. Read one chapter of First Peter each day and talk to God about the words.  Give us great missionaries like St. Patrick.

18. Almighty God, glorify Thyself and grant peace to the precious people in Palestine and Israel.  Miraculously give great reverence for life to them.  Pray for Southern Mission Society directors’ meeting today.

19. Pray for Moravians in the 80 congregations and 71 outstations of the nation of South Africa; guide them in the battle against AIDS and in efforts to win souls.

20. SPRING BEGINS. New life springs up in nature, in me and in others. Lord Jesus, let the Holy Spirit fill me more and more.  Help me lead others into Thy spirit and love.   Help them make decisions to serve Thee.

21. Elijah prayed until the fire fell on Mt. Carmel and the timid people then shouted, “The Lord, He is God!” Lord Jesus, make my heart blaze with love for Thee, for people and for truth. Spend time talking to Him about this.

22. Holy, Almighty God, “Let Thy will be known and done among the nations; guide their feet into the way of peace” and in times of peace help me to serve Thee and also think of others.

23. SUNDAY. Give God your praise as soon as you enter church today.  Today is the birthday of Ist Moravian Church of GeorgiaLord, show them souls You have awakened who need the Saviour

24. Two anniversaries: First convert baptized on Tobago in 1799 and preaching began at St. Philips in Salem in 1822.  Fill them with great enthusiasm for Thee today.

25. Often write some of your prayers in the margins of your Moravian Daily Text Book.  Months later look  back and see how God answered them.  Keep cards or paper handy to write down things God puts into your mind during your daily devotion time.

26. Robert Thiessen family (missionaries to Mixtec Indians of Mexico) will be here on “Home Assignment” until April 29.  You may  invite them to speak. Lord, use them to inspire others to become missionaries to unreached people.

27. Br. Bill Campbell taking “health kits” to the international distribution place today. Keep Bill and wife Betty and the contributors of health supplies in your prayers so this good work may continue.

28. Today through Sunday, big mission conference at Ardmore Moravian - $10. We are all invited.  Pray God’s spirit will be present there.

29. Spend time praying for your church and your denomination – members and leaders.  Likewise, for your country.  All of us  need the Lord.  When you can’t pray, just praise God over and over again.

30.SUNDAY. O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise!  O day of rest and gladness! Could you spend some time this afternoon memorizing some Bible verses and hymns?
