The Final Word August, 2004

John H. Giesler

Br. Doug Wilson, the son of Rev. Steve and Claire Wilson of Little Church in Charlotte, is working with the Samaritan’s Purse and was recently assigned to Afghanistan. He has had some exciting adventures. He began writing e-mails to his parents. They sent me a few and I knew this was something very special for folks with a world vision of the Lord’s work. I urged them to post them on their Church page, so everyone could follow his adventures, day by day. Start at March 10 and read forward and you will be caught up in the challenge, the hardships, the humor and the dangers he faces. http://www.littlechurchonthelane.com/DougWilson.htm

Thanks for sharing these priceless adventures! You will be moved by his courage and strength under very tough conditions.

Our new Executive director of the BMW has been at work for a short time, and he has now selected Br. Sam Gray as part of his new staff. It is quite a blessing to have someone so well equipped on board. His resumé on P.1 shows what he brings to his new job. Br. Sam Propsom in Labrador has a huge job. But he asked for some help and received it in the two young men from Denmark who have served for six months. It is an inspiration to read about their work. One of the things that the recent troubles in our Province have taught us is that we have a great heritage with the former Brotherly Agreement from the early days of Herrnhut, and the Ground of the Unity from the first Unity Synod after World War II. Br. George Lee, who started a church using these two documents, now tells of their usefulness in the Philippine Islands. A look back in history shows us our early missions were not easy. We forget how many died! Br. Robert Iobst and Br. Jack Geis again challenge us to pray and witness in many places. The seeds of good examples do get recognized. Br. Al Reynolds of a dynamic small Moravian group in Maryland works in many ways. But he also checks up on Moravian news from around the world that appears in local newspapers. He found an article in a Jamaican paper that lauded the local Moravian Pastor for his faithful ministry to his community in Malvern, Jamaica. Well done, Br.and Sr. Peart. We have 36 signed up for The Trail of Tears ’04 so we have less than 10 spaces left. It’s not too late, but it’s getting close. Call me today if you are interested. As usual after a double issue, we end up with much more material than we can squeeze into the next issue. So I have a good start on the September issue that I will be passing on to Sr. Glenna Tasedan, a former editor of ONWARD and a member of the Mission Society Board. She will edit that issue of ONWARD.
