How to pray while doing a good deed for others who need help

Today, September 17, we have received updated information from Church World Service regarding “Gifts of the Heart” Cleanup and Health Kits. The 3 gallon buckets are no longer being requested. Instead, 5 gallon buckets are requested as noted on the CWS website – http://www.cwserp.org/reportview.php?entry+454. 

The requested items are to be placed in a plastic 5 gallon bucket with a resealable lid, sealed with packing tape, placed in a box along with the name of the person sending the box marked on the outside of type of kit (do not include aerosol cans). Personal “sent-with-love-and –prayers” notes may be put in as well. For those in the Winston-Salem area, notify Christ Moravian Church, 336-722-2007, to arrange time and transport.  All others send to: Church World  Service,  Brethren Service Center Annex,

 In addition, $3.00 per Clean-Up Bucket needs to be sent to the following address earmarked for processing/shipping:  Church World Service, 28606 Phillips St.

Items to be included in the bucket are:  5 scouring pads, 7 sponges – assorted sizes, 1 scrub brush, 18 cleaning towels, reusable like Easy Wipes, 50 oz. dry laundry detergent, 12 oz. bottle of household cleaner like Lysol, 28 oz. bottle disinfectant dish soap like Dawn, 50 clothes pins, clothesline – two 50 ft. or one 100 ft., 5 packages dust masks like Benchtop, 2 pair latex gloves, 1 pair work gloves, 24 bag roll heavy-duty trash bags, 33-45 gallons, 1 6-14 oz. bottle of insect repellant, drops or lotion, not aerosol. 

Health kits:

Seal the following items in a one-gallon plastic bag with a zipper closure:

1 hand towel, 1 washcloth, 1 comb, 1 metal nail file or nail clipper, 1 bar of soap – bath size, 1 toothbrush, 1 tube of toothpaste – 4 to 7 oz., 6 band-aids

They should be packed in sturdy cartons with the number and type of kits clearly marked on the outside of the box.  Ship prepaid to the New Windsor, MD address above.  In addition, send $1 per kit to the Elkhart, IN address above.  Personal notes of encouragement may be included also.

Now this is not easy to do by yourself. Gather some friends together and pray about it. Then divide up the jobs and pray some more. Then get together and work. You will be thrilled at knowing you are helping folks who are in need.
