John H. Giesler                          PRAY EVERY DAY                                  April 2006

1. 1756 Antigua, W.I. Arrival of Samuel Isles, 1st Moravian missionary. 1888 – First Easton, PA. As we move closer to Easter think why we should pray. Montgomery suggests – Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, uttered or unexpressed, the motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast. Is your heart on fire?

2. SUNDAY – Paul says; We may approach God with freedom and confidence. Eph.3:12. But we need to have faith and seek Him daily. Jesus is model for prayer life.

3. 1896 – Sister Bay, WI. God wants us to approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace. Heb.4:16. Prayer is both simple, and sublime! Just try it.

4. 1773 – Friedberg W-S, NC. Jesus told his disciples; Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you shall receive and your joy will be complete. John 16:24. That promise is now for you.

5. Paul tells us; be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.Rom.12:12. It’s always time for prayer. It is the center of hope and persistence. Find a place to pray and do it faithfully everyday. Pray without ceasing.

6. 1851 – Olivet W-S, NC. David, a man of prayer, said; The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry. Ps 34:15. He’s listening!

7. 1929 – Glenwood, Madison, WI. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jer. 33:3.

8. If we know that He hears us – whatever we ask                -  we know that we have what we asked of Him. 1 John 5:15. If we pray according to his guidance, He answers.

9. 1917 – Veedum, Pittsville, WI. PALM SUNDAY – We will never have enough time for prevailing prayer unless we deliberately plan for it. Jesus planned for the events of Palm Sunday and so must we.

10. 1949 – Palmer Twp. Easton, PA. 1988 – Good News, Sherwood Park, Alberta. As You cursed the fig tree and cleansed the temple in Your last week, You revealed hatred and greed in people’s hearts.

11. 1898 – Enterprise, Arcadia, NC. As Jesus answered the Scribes’ questions, he then answered their unfaithfulness with fierce words of condemnation. But with inspired parables he shows us His love and wisdom.

12. On this silent day we know that Jesus continued to teach the disciples with the precious hours left to him.

13. 1732 – 1st Sunrise Service, Herrnhut. 1760 – BETHANIA, NC. 1859 – EGG HARBOR CITY, NJ. 1885 CHRISTIAN FAITH, DEFOREST, WI. MAUNDY THURSDAY – This day brought forth the most dramatic act of faith in the Last Supper. As we partake we remember what He did for us. O what an act of majesty.

14. GOOD FRIDAY – Near the Cross was Mary weeping. Only in faith can we sing; Through Your suff’ring, death and merit, I eternal life inherit. Words cannot express the grace given for us. It is finished!

15. GREAT SABBATH – Lord of life! Now sweetly slumber. The soldiers guarded. The women prepared.

16. EASTER SUNDAY – Christ is alive! Let Christians sing. With triumph, the voices and instruments praise the resurrection of Jesus. What a day of victory. Jesus lives, no more to die. Let you prayers be joyful!

17. Hallelujah! The victory continues. Thanks for the sacrifice and sufferings; but more gratitude for the power and joy of resurrection.

18. Christ is Alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine. He reigns forever and ever from shore to shore. He is our Lord in 2006 and for all who own Him.

19. The Southern Province Synod begins today in Black Mountain, NC. Let us use our creative gifts to plan new and meaningful ways of celebrating His victory for our generation and the future.

20. Be known to us in breaking bread, but do not then depart; Savior, abide with us and spread your table in our heart. We always need to renew our plea, abide with me.

21. 1929 – LEAKSVILLE, EDEN, NC. 1976 – OUR SAVIOR’S, ALTURA, MN (merger of Bethany and Hebron). How great the bliss to be a sheep of Jesus, and to be guided by His shepherd staff.

22. The work in Labrador and Alaska is among the Inuit and Yup’ik (formerly Eskimos) peoples. The work began in Greenland, (now served by the Danish Lutheran Church). New work is going on in Siberia.

23. SUNDAY – Come, He said, my nail prints view, and my side the sword pierced through. As we gather for worship on this Lord’s Day, may we be believers rather than  doubters. We have celebrated the resurrection!

24. Pray for Central America and work in Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica, among Miskito and other Indian groups as well as Creoles and Spanish speaking natives.

27. 1790 - Tobago, W.I. Arrival of John & Mary Montgomery to start work. 1852 – NY II (now Tremont Terrace) BRONX, NY. 1969 – CHRIST, CALGARY, ALBERTA. Remember the very important work in South Africa among the various peoples in this huge country that is striving to keep all of the groups together after throwing off the curse of apartheid.

28. The largest number of Moravians in any country is in Tanzania with four huge provinces serving several language groups. They have new missions in Tanzania.

29. Four nations have established churches as outreach from Tanzania; Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Zanzibar.

30. SUNDAY – Two works called Missions of the Unity are in Palestine among Arabs, and the Church in North India among Tibetan exiles and others in Asia.
