We are grateful for the enlightening cover story by Br. Sam Gray about all the regional Mission Societies there are in North America. It is the first time I have ever seen a listing of them. We have had articles and announcements from a few of them, but now we are enlightened! I wrote the article on P. 2 about Newfoundland/Labrador and their economic boom. It is a major change for these people, but it will bring severe problems with the change. Br. Sam included on P. 2 an account of his education of Thai customs on his recent trip, which he describes on P. 3. His schedule of trips is tremendous. My prayer suggestions reach back into Scripture and Hymns about prayer, and there are rich resources. We have many anniversaries in April so I used these simple assurances to help us pray about the people and places. Br. Jack Geis enlightens us about work on the gulf coast in several places where hurricane damage is being dealt with. There are many opportunities to serve this cause and will be for some time. Lend a hand! We are always amazed at the amount of mission news there is in the British Moravian Messenger. This fresh report from Jamaica by Jamaicans reveals about their success in starting a new church on their 200th anniversary and what it has done in the past 50 years. There are precious pictures I wish we could include. There is a brief report and picture about the newly refurbished Moravian Guest House and Conference Center in Herrnhut. They now can sleep 87 people in their two buildings. This opens up the possibilities for visiting in groups, or by families. If you are interested, information is available at Moravian Guest House – Comeniusstrasse 8-10 – 02747 Herrnhut, Germany. Web:www.teh-herrnhut.de We are aware of great change in Nicaragua, where there was little or no tourism when we lived there. But that has also changed. There are even good hotels in Bluefields and wonderful resorts in both the Pacific coast and the Atlantic Corn Islands. One prominent tour magazine says that Nicaragua is now the top country in the world in which Americans can retire. It is described in terms like “paradise”, “beautiful” and such terms. If you are interested in visiting, or retiring there, many wonderful places are looking for you. It is very enconomical, and worth while. We will be glad to put you in touch with people who can help you. There are still places you don’t want to visit, but English only is not a problem in most places. You can also get to know people who can now earn a living doing good. JHG |
