How can I be involved in mission?

You can be involved in mission through  Board of World Mission.

Visit our website (www.moravianmission.org) to find opportunities for going, praying, giving and doing.

Call us (336-773-1732) to ask about upcoming trips, projects, ministries (Disaster Response, HIV/AIDS, VBS, etc.)

Support our mission efforts or join us in supporting the efforts of others throughout the Provinces.

Contact your congregation’s “Mission Ambassador,” Mission Committee, Church Board, or your Regional Volunteer Coordinator (click on “Short Term Work Crews” on the website for details) to find out what is happening in your area.

_The Board of World Mission can be involved in mission through you!

-         What is God calling you to do? Where is God calling you to go? (Remember, “you” can mean you individually or you and your congregation or mission group)

-         How can the BWM support you, equip you, orient you, connect you or help to send you out in response to that call?

-         Again, contact your Regional Volunteer Coordinator, or call us and share your vision with us!

The Board of World Mission is an Inter-Provincial Agency.  We work with, in and through the Northern and Southern Provinces of the Moravian Church in America. But remember, the “Province” is not a building on Center Street or Church Street.  The Province is you!  The Province is “we!”  How can we be involved in God’s mission?

Let’s pray for God’s guidance and then share our mission vision together!

Praise Report from Argentina!

Shawn Meade, a Moravian from the Bruderheim Congregation in Alberta, Canada, working with children in Rosario, Argentina, sends this report:

We praise the Lord for his provision! We have been offering a cup of milk Monday through Friday with a nutritious full meal Saturdays to an average of 40 –50 children in one of Rosario’s poorest Barrios.  M.A.N.A (Misiones a Niños Argentinos) along with “Seeds of Hope,” also began Horita Feliz, (that’s “Little Happy Hour”) activities where we have bible stores and coloring, activities, and crafts.

These children, it was reported, were suffering from hunger during the week; begging in the traffic on the nearby highway and streets, a dangerous activity for these children, but a necessary one.  We were troubled by this report and by their plight and began to pray for God’s guidance and help. We received a strong desire to provide a bowl of cereal each morning with their cup of milk.

We had many obstacles to overcome to provide this, but today we praise our Lord for His provision, as he makes all things possible for those who fear and love Him. This was an expense we were going to find difficult to fulfill, but in faith we stepped out, because the battle is the Lord’s.

When circumstances seem impossible and wish to control us, I always remember God’s word to Jahaziel, a Levite of the sons of Asaph:

“Do not fear! Or be dismayed… for this battle is not yours, but God’s. This battle is not yours to fight; take your position, stand still, and see the victory of the LORD on your behalf. Do not fear or be dismayed…. the LORD will be with you.” 2 Chronicles 20:15-17

We believe this, and we confessed this our belief, and our faith in prayer, and we received the fulfillment of His promise. When purchasing the cereal, the elderly lady who was the owner of the store where we were purchasing the cereal, inquisitively asked, “Why are you buying so much cereal?”  We explained to her our story, that we were purchasing it for children in the Barrio, Molino Blanco, to feed to them every day from our comedor, and she listened with deep interest. She then wrote down a phone number of a man, Claudio, (her son, it turned out to be!), who is the distributor and wholesaler for a chain of stores, and told us to talk to him and tell him our story and perhaps he could help us. We indeed called, and after a brief introduction who we were, and how we got his number, he invited us to come to his office, (a warehouse it turned out to be), to speak with him.

He was very kind and listened to our plight. He informed us that he was not allowed to sell to anyone who was not a business. Our hearts momentarily fall. Then he smiled seeing our faces and said, “What greater mission is there than feeding God’s children?” He offered us the same cereal we were buying, but at about one third of the cost. We were filled with emotion as he loaded boxes of cereal into our taxi, which they will deliver to our doorstep, without charge, each time we call him in the future.

Praise our Lord! Everyday we live by faith here; His promises are always true. We have this hope, a sure and steadfast anchor of our souls, that holds us fast in all storms.
