As I write the final word of this issue I thank Br. Sam Gray for his sharing of his experiences and correspondence that fills this issue. His report of the Youth and Mission Summit on the cover makes us aware of the deep hunger for a mission in the lives of so many youth. Wake up, Moravian Church! The Leadership Focus will show how extensive it is. Two letters, one from Costa Rica and the other from Argentina show how two young Christians have found their mission. What a blessing! In the visit of the group to Nepal they met the Pradhan family. We look forward to meeting them soon. But every one can pray for them, and help them in their adjustment to a new culture. Br. Sam gives us the story and text for the newest Moravian hymn on p.5. Come and sing the tune on Nov.5. On my Suggestions to Pray, I thought I could get us all to pray each day for a specific country. I was shocked to learn there are over 40 countries with Moravian work. So I ran out of space, a wonderful problem for a writer. I will finish the concerns for our church in 23 more countries in the next issue. One of the most important events for the Mission Society, South is our annual Mission Lovefeast, always held the first Sunday in November. Our President gives us all the details and invites us to this wonderful celebration. What a wonderful time for those of you from out of town to visit Salem in its fall beauty. On a recent trip to North Dakota I was really impressed with the spirit and vigor of the members I met there. They really care about Mississippi! They have an active Mission Society there and a new project they have begun is to publish a cookbook with 637 good recipes from the good cooks in ND. All proceeds of the sale will be used for the relief trips to help the disaster victims. The cost of the book is $10 and $2 for shipping. (Moravian Women of ND – 6151 25th St. South – Fargo, ND 58104.) They had a trip to Mississippi in the summer and two more trips are scheduled this winter. They are collecting materials to ship there and every SS Class is challenged to purchase a bike to send a long to give to some needy child there. Great ideas from great people! |
