1. In the 1950s, the worldwide Moravian Church granted ownership and authority to emerging nations in the Unity when they were able. Gradually we moved out of paternal missions. Today our youth go out with para-church groups, and we support them. 2. 1807 Beginning of Moravian Theological Seminary in Nazareth, PA, in 1858 moved to Bethlehem. Pray for the many individuals and families serving overseas with these agencies. 3. 1762 Schoeneck, Nazareth, PA 1896 Moravia, Summerfield, NC. The Missionary Aviation Fellowship serves around the world in developing nation, providing vital transportation. 4. 1953 Raleigh, NC. Pray for the Steve Marx family serving with MAF in Ecuador. 5. 1908 1st Greensboro, NC, 1924 King, NC. George Goff and his wife Ruth serve with Alas de Socorro (Wings of Mercy) in Honduras. George had trained and worked for MAF. Due to financial problems they had to close in Honduras. But his work was too valuable and friends keep his mission going. 6. 1889 London, Cambridge, WI. Celeste Handy works for InterVarsity with Indian university students on campuses in New Mexico. She is a Cherokee and graduated from Salem College. 7. 2002 Immanuel-New Eden merger (Immanuel 1912 & New Eden 1923,) W-S, NC. Two doctors from the Dillingham, AK Moravian Church, Rich and Barb Ashur have been serving with Samaritan’s Purse in Northern Sudan. They recently were recalled from this very dangerous area, and are temporarily back in Alaska. 8. 1758 Graceham, MD 1967 Rolling Hills, FL. Also from Dillingham are Drs. Mark and Maddy Mumm, who are serving with medical missions in Uzbekistan in Asia 9. Neil and Anita Moree, linguists, also from Dillingham, are going to France to support Bible Translation through technology and hospitality 10. 1885 1st House in Bethel, AK occupied by Kilbuck & Weinland families. Tony and Dora Bragg, from Ardmore are serving in the Middle East with Samaritan’s Purse. 11. Michael and Brenda Bent are serving in Croatia with Campus Crusade. Brother Charlie and Vicki Brent are working with Asians in universities in Texas with Campus Crusade. Michael and Charlie grew up in Friedland. 12. 1851 East Side, Green Bay, WI. Hans Nyberg, a member of East Green Bay has been training with InterVarsity School of Leadership Training in Michigan with 76 students from all over the world. 13. Phil Raiford, from Friedberg is serving among the Mixtec in Mexico, helping them form a Christian Community. 14. Robert and Anne Thiessen, also work in this basic Christian mission, with the Mennonite Board. 15. Michael Tesh and his new bride Cecilia work for Youth with a Mission in Kenya starting an orphanage. |

of 19. Dr. Louis Sutton, a member of Christ the King Moravian Church in Durham, is the president of Worldwide Evangelism for Christ. 20. 1985 Church of the Redeemer, Dublin, OH. Most of these have to raise their salary. The Southern Mission Society makes contributions toward the salaries of many of these missionaries. 21. Several of them need some help to meet their required amounts, and if you are interested we can supply some names. But they all need our prayers. 22. 1899 Bethesda, W-S, NC. One of the most helpful occasions for most young people seeking inspiration comes every other year at the Urbana Convention. Many Moravian youth have attended. 23. 1881 Canaan, Davenport, ND. Traditionally our high school youth camps and Convos present a real opportunity for young people to make a commitment. 24. 1874 Urichsville, OH. Every high school Sunday school class presents opportunities for adult leaders to offer encouragement to interested youth. 25. 1896 Christ, W-S, NC. 1914 Edgeboro, Bethlehem, PA. Every pastor or confirmation leader have occasions to call for a commitment to confirmands. 26. 1924 2nd Indianapolis, IN. Certain college faculty members who are Christians have teaching moments to challenge thir students to listen for a call. 27. Parents have many occasions when they have teachable moments to encourage the youth to consider a vocation that will be a challenge and a blessing. 28. Over the Labor Day weekend many very talented and committed youth gathered at Laurel Ridge for a Mission Summit. Youth from the UK, Jamaica and both American Provinces had a real experience in planning for the mission for our Church. 29. Youth fellowship leaders sometimes have hectic times with youth, but they often are able to plant Spiritual seeds that often bear fruit later/ 30. Choir directors and singers also have many opportunities with young singers. A survey a few years ago found that nearly 90% of all pastors sang in their church choirs. 31. 1858 Lake Auburn, Victoria, MN. When I was a college age youth I worked at the Moravian Home across the street from the Lake Auburn Church. A missionary and a lay person helped me form my spiritual call. I have never forgotten their spiritual help. |
