The Final Word October, 2006

John H. Giesler

Some very important events are described here that will affect the future of our Church is important ways. The Youth Mission Summit will influence how we do mission inside and outside our church. The subject of HIV/Aids is something that will affect the whole world for a good part of the 21st century. Our church has jumped into the needs in many ways in many places. All churches and governments must face the problems and the constituencies. Judy Harke has taken a major leadership role with her medical training and Christian concern giving her the tools needed. She recently attended an important conference in Toronto that is helping the world to respond to the needs now. Br. Sam has made given articles for us this month on pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 that will fulfill your interest. He gives us background on the mission of the Braima family, who are from Sierra Leone. They have found Christ in the ministry of the Little Church on the Lane 1977 and they have continued with a desire to help their people find the Christian way of life. Br. & Sr. Braima tell us of their concern and preparation for these years that will now really begin a new outreach for our church. When I started to plan the Suggestions to Pray Every Day, I started to line up the people in our church who are serving around the world. I was amazed at the number and the many places where they are serving. There were a number of real surprises for me. We are really amazed at the ministry of the Dillingham Moravian congregation that has three couples that are highly trained and motivated to commit their lives to serve the Lord in very difficult places on the cutting edge of the Christian Church. I am also excited about so many of these talented and able persons who are really willing to witness wherever the Holy Spirit moves them. The events of this summer are going to echo in the life of the Mission Society when we gather at Olivet on the first Sunday of November. You won’t want to miss it. On September 14th 36 participants will take off on the Trail of Tears Tour. We are impressed at the quality of those going. There will be three Moravian Ministers as well as a Baptist minister on board. There will be three Methodists, a pair of sisters and a group of three sisters and a daughter of one of the sisters. We will walk on the newest portion of the original Trail in Arkansas, just designated by congress. We will have a traditional Cherokee banquet at the old Moravian Mission site in Oklahoma, and worship with many Moravian descendents. Wish you were going!   JHG
