A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW PRESIDENT

The first meeting of the newly elected board was filled with God’s love and several reports from our mission fields. Below is a brief summary of the reports. Donna Tesh and her team reported on the great work that her son Michael is doing in Kenya at the Ray of Hope Orphanage. Each one of Donna’s mission team gave a personal testimony but the common theme was the love that the people of Kenya have for God and each other, in spite of all the poverty that they face daily. This expression of love was witnessed by the entire team. There are currently 15 orphans that Michael oversees. The need is overwhelming; our donation from the Mission Awareness Dinner will allow them to feed one meal of porridge per day for one year. The current goal is to build a school and a clinic to serve the surrounding villages. Michael’s wedding pictures are beautiful. See Donna for details.

Br. Phil Raiford shared his experience of working in Mexico in the Guerrero Region with the Mixtec Indians. They are the last Indian group to be reached in Mexico. There are forty different dialects in that region. Phil is currently doing discipleship training and church planting. He will be attending YWAM School for five months to learn the Mixtec language.

Dusty Harrison is with Intervarsity. He shared his plans to work with students in fraternities and sororities. He will be working at the College of William and Mary. Dusty is dedicated to reaching college students through Bible Study groups. Fraternity and Sorority students comprise 1% of college students, but high a proportion of these students become leaders. What an opportunity!

Let’s support our young mission minded leaders and pray for their safety as they reach out and bring our brothers and sisters closer the Jesus Christ.

moved a lady’s furniture into her new apartment and cleaned the entire armory and trailers one day. All in all, we accomplished an incredible amount of work in 4 days.

Tuesday evening, John Rights led a communion service on the beach between Gulfport and Biloxi. This was very special and we appreciate John for it. We drove to Biloxi along the beach and witnessed the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. It is truly beyond description. Everyone was moved by what we saw and all of the work still left to be done.

When I read the Daily Text on June 20, one month before our mission trip, it hit home. The text was from Proverbs 14:31 and read:  “Those who are kind to the needy honor God”. After all, aren’t we on earth to honor God? Stewardship isn’t only giving of our monetary treasures, but giving of our service as well.

I am incredibly blessed for being a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. This allows me the honor to serve our Lord Jesus Christ in many ways. I am so very thankful that one of these ways is working with our youth. I cannot put into words the blessings I received from this. I was fortunate to go to Jamaica in 2004 and came back astounded by our youth’s accomplishments. Upon our return on July 26 from this 7-day Gulfport trip, I can say that I had a truly awesome experience. We as a congregation, parents and friends, should be very proud of our Senior High Youth. They honorably represented our church through their expressions of faith and hard work. My heartfelt thanks goes to John Rights, our Associate Pastor, who gives so much to our youth. The adult leaders and youth also thank all of NPMC for your continued support of our many youth programs. Everyone acknowledges that our youth are our future.

Bill Byrd, Sr. High Youth Leader, New Philadelphia
